《妙法蓮華經》，是大乘佛法中，常常被讚歎為「經中之王」的一部很重要的經典；它的重要性與地位，等同於《華嚴經》的影響。
The Lotus Sutra is a very important text among these great Mahayana sutras, especially renowned as “the King of All Sutras”. Its significance and position is similarly to the influence of the Avatamsaka Sutra in Mahayana Buddhism.
此次講座所選的是：第十六章「如來壽量品」、與第十七章「分別功德品」，主要內容是介紹釋迦牟尼佛、與一切諸佛，在證得無上佛果的時候，皆能顯現「無量壽」的境界。演講者，將會以「佛教教義、與朝聖的結合」，與配合現代音樂、幻燈片等多元化的方式，來向現代人，介紹如此深奧的佛教教義。
In this coming lecture, the speaker has chosen the 16th Chapter of the Lotus Sutra entitled as “the Life Span of the Tathagata”, and the 17th Chapter called as “Distinctions in Merits”. The major point of this chapter will introduce that, when Buddha Sakyamuni and all Buddhas have reached the complete state of supreme Buddhahood, at this time they can also manifest the special stage of “the Life Span (endless life)”. During the lecture time, the speaker will represent the particular ways of “the Combination of Buddhist Doctrine and Pilgrimage”, included modern music, slide shows and so on, in order to present the very profound Buddhist doctrine for modern people.
此第十六章「如來壽量品」，包含無量的教法；簡言之，可以歸納為下列三個重點：
Actually, there are involved with countless Buddhist doctrines in this sixteenth chapter text, however, these could be briefly divided into three major points as followings.
壹、釋迦牟尼佛，在人類的世界中，示現「八相成道」的過程，在顯現最後一個階段(入涅槃)前，他慈悲地在東印度、靈鷲山，為無量世界的眾生，宣說了一乘教法，值得一切眾生盡未來際的修持，而快速地成佛。所以，《妙法蓮華經》是圓滿、也快速成佛之法門。此點，值得佛弟子們，專精修持此經，而快速證悟佛果。
First of all, in our human world, after Buddha Sakyamuni had manifested “the Eight Stages of the Complete Enlightenment”, he had compassionately preached this Lotus Sutra for all countless sentient beings at the Rajgir place in Eastern India, which before he showed to enter the final stage of manifestation, also called Parinivarna which means “pass away naturally”.
This Lotus Sutra is the utmost high level for practices renowned as “the Only One Path of Buddhahood” , as well as it can guide all beings to practice hardly forever as resulting in the achievement of Buddha complete enlightenment very quickly. Therefore, the Lotus Sutra is indeed perfectly as the most effective approach of the attainment of Buddhahood. Following this point, all sincere Buddhists should concentrate to practice on this sutra in their entire life for the quick achievement of the enlightenment.
貳、在此品，特別說明：一切諸佛，在證得無上佛果的時候，皆能顯現「無量壽」的境界；進而展現廣大的慈悲、智慧、願行的功德力，能夠無盡地利益眾生的佛行事業。此點，值得佛弟子們，在日常生活中，學習諸佛無盡的六度萬行；進而真誠地關懷一切眾生，與無所求地奉獻國家、與社會。
Secondly, this sixteenth chapter also emphasizes that, when all Buddhas can manifest the stage of the Life Span as the sign of the complete enlightenment, at the same time they can show to have very powerful merits of compassion, wisdom and endless vows, in order to promote the Buddha activities of benefiting all beings.
Following this standpoint, it will inspire all Buddhists to engage into these activities of Six Prajnaparamitas in their daily lives, as well as furthermore it also encourages all Buddhist followers to care sincerely for others and to contribute their own country and society without any rewards.
參、同時此品，也讓我們學習到兩個重點：一是，在釋迦牟尼佛入涅槃後，如何尋找、與依止正確的善知識，是非常重要的課題。二是，說明釋迦牟尼佛入涅槃後，慈悲地留下許多舍利子；因此在佛教歷史與文化的發展中，如何建造舍利塔、與供養禮拜佛塔，也成為佛教修持的一個很重要的法門。
Thirdly, at the same time, this chapter will also inspire us for learning more two main ideas. One is a very important subject for that how to find the correct spiritual teachers and also to rely on their guides properly, especially after Buddha Sakyamuni had been passed away.
Another is to express that, after Buddha Sakyamuni had been in the Parinirvana state, he still kindly left many precious relics for Buddhist followers. Hence, from the viewpoints of Buddhist historical and cultural development, it becomes very significant methods for Buddhist practitioners who really concern that, how to build the relic stupas properly and how to offer and worship towards Buddha-stuaps very sincerely and devotionally.
