From 2009, Venerable Shin Hong Shi has been giving a talk on “The combined commentary on the western pureland of Buddha Amitabha” at the Samye Buddhist Association, Taipei. 《西方合論》為明、袁宏道居士撰述；明、雙徑沙門如奇標旨；清、蕅益大師評點，選定為淨土十要之第十。

The ‘Combined Commentary on the Western Pure Land of Buddha Amitabha’ was composed by the scholar, Yuan Hong-Dao of Ming Dynasty while Sangha Ru Qi of Shuang Jing added the titles. In his written commentary about the ten essential methods for practice to be reborn in the Pureland - Master Ou Yi (Qing dynasty) had specifically chosen the ‘Combined Commentary on the Western Pure Land of Buddha Amitabha’ as the tenth method.

此論以不可思議的第一義為宗，以悟道為導，以一日十二時當中的持佛名號,一心不亂、念念相續為行持。以六度萬行為助因，深信因果為入門。

This combined commentary guides one to realize the inconceivable, supreme truth through the daily, devout practice in reciting the Buddha’s name to maintain a continuous, non-distracted state of mindfulness. It also highlights the importance of the firm belief in the universal law of cause and effect as the way to enter the path of cultivating the six perfections. The practice of these six perfections will be the assisting causes to plant the seeds to be reborn in the Pureland.
