Donation to the production of Dharani Blanket ('Ji Xiang Bei' & 'Wang Sheng Bei’)

SBA plans to launch the re-production of the Dharani Blanket, for the living as well as for the deceased. Your kind support of donation will be most welcome.

The blanket to useby the living (‘Ji Xiang Bei’) and the blanket to use for the deceased (‘Wang Sheng Bei’) are commonly known as ‘The Dharani Blanket’. The blanket for the living is khaki base with brown coloured wordings, different from the traditional blanket for the deceased, which is yellow base with red coloured wordings. Nevertheless, the Sankrit contents are the same for both blankets. The blankets are filled with mantras in Sankrit, which have great benefits for both the living and deceased.

The impression people have of the Dharani Blanket is that it is used at funerals, to cover the body of the deceased. In fact, the Dharani Blanket has many benefits. Besides helping the deceased to be re-born to a good place, it can also protect the living, keeping them safe and free from disturbances. It can even be used as a Thangka, to hang at a place where it can be seen easily, to eliminate bad karma and increase meritorious virtues.

According to historical records, the Dharani Blanket was first used by Royal families, or given by the emperor to ministers that have served and brought glory to the country.  Later on, it was also widely used by the commoners. Due to repeated printing, the writings on the blanket are no longer clear.  Although there were people that tried to copy and re-produce the writings, it did not turn out proper as there were either additional or missing strokes.  This was because they are not familiar with Sankrit wordings. In view of this, SBA searched and found the original sutra as the basis for the wordings and wants to initiate the re-production of the Dharani Blanket with the correct wordings printed on it.
